There are a number of things you can do around your home to make it a nicer place to live and to improve your wellbeing.

A recent article for Homes & Property highlighted five of the top ways in which you can boost your mood using interior design changes, and at the top of the list is using lighting.

Speaking to the newspaper, Jo Dyson, renovation and interiors expert for the London Homebuilding and Renovating Show, explained that there are different kinds of light that you can employ in different spaces.

One thing worth considering for both the bedroom and bathroom is installing dimmable smart lights. This will allow you to alter the mood in these spaces depending on the time of day and what you’re doing.

Ms Dyson explained: “If you are getting ready for work in the morning you might opt for a bright, light-filled bedroom and bathroom, but want the lights dimmed when you’re winding down and getting ready for sleep.”

Fitting blackout blinds in the bedroom is another of her top tips as this will help you get a good and full night’s sleep regardless of the time of year.

If you’ve never considered fitting smart lighting to your home, you might want to explore the concept a bit further to find out why it’s such a great option. Smart lighting just gives you an extra level of control over your home’s lights.

You can use these systems to turn your lights on when you’re away from home - great when you’re on holiday or to make sure that your property looks inviting when you get in from a long day of work.

Smart lights can also be synced to music, set for a specific ambience and scheduled. The best bit - they’re all controlled from an app on your smartphone.
